Principal’s Welcome

Killara High School has a rich history as an outstanding secondary school, but it also has a vibrant present and an exciting future.

Our school is a very special place. The consistently excellent results achieved by students in external examinations over many years are well-documented. The vast majority of Killara graduates will go on to university, in their course of first choice. By any measure of Higher School Certificate results, Killara is consistently one of the top three comprehensive government schools in NSW. Alumni distinguish themselves in diverse fields, and continue to involve themselves in the school, often through the enrolment of their children.

However, Killara values achievement in all its forms and it is our focus on achieving personal bests and individualised learning that makes our school great. The broadest possible curriculum choice, alternate pathways, the onsite delivery of TAFE courses and an extensive program of curriculum enrichment support the growth and development of every student.

A culture of enjoying lifelong learning for all underpins our practice, and a focus on continuous improvement is central to this. Killara teachers are highly qualified professionals, who use their expertise and experience to design learning, and who have a commitment to their own ongoing development.

The provision of opportunities to build confidence and self-esteem, and the promotion of positive attitudes is central to the ethos of this school. Students, staff and families work hard to ensure the ethos of fairness and kindness upon which all action is based. We empower students not just to be active learners but also to be caring, compassionate people who work hard and help each other. We are your local community school, and we enjoy the challenge of helping to build active and ethical citizens who celebrate difference. Killara students look beyond the school gates to help those less fortunate, and in doing so, make not just intellectual but emotional connections to the world.

I welcome you to our website, and we are always pleased and proud to welcome you to our school.
